Residency Program Overview
The Division of Otolaryngology at Duke University Medical Center is proud of its tradition of providing its residents with a range and depth of experience that will prepare them for either academic or independent practice. The program's commitment to training encompasses the necessary components of teaching, independent responsibility, and learning through observation and direct supervision. This is made possible by the wide variety and volume of experience offered by Duke University Medical Center and its affiliated institutions.
The residency program consists of one year of general surgery and four years of otolaryngology-head and neck surgery; a resident accepted to our program is expected to complete the general surgery year at Duke as well. The four years of otolaryngology-head and neck surgery include extensive exposure to the medical and surgical management of all facets of our specialty, including head and neck cancer, otology, sinus disease, laryngology, facial plastics and reconstruction, allergy, pathology, radiology, audiology and dedicated research.
Resident Matching Information
We appreciate your interest in the residency program in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Duke University Medical Center. Fourth-year medical students with a graduation date after September 1 in the year before their desired residency should participate in a resident matching program. We are classified as a Categorical program because we provide the required training starting in post-graduate year one (PGY1). We participate in the National Resident Matching Program.
